Fixed Asset Register

Add Asset
For an asset the client already owned before moving to Vero: enter the accumulated depreciation to date from the previous accounts. Leave blank for a new purchase.

The purchase itself is recorded in Banking or as a Bill, coded to the cost nominal. The register tracks the asset and posts depreciation; it does not create the purchase entry.

Register
Depreciation

Posts one system journal at the year end: Dr 8000 Depreciation, Cr each asset’s accumulated depreciation nominal. Whole months held, prorated. One run per year; reverse below to re-run.

Documents

Drop in bills, purchase invoices and receipts (PDF or photos, in bulk if you like). Each one is read automatically, then waits here for your review before anything is posted. Approving creates a posted bill with the document attached.

HMRC MTD Connection

Connect this client to HMRC Making Tax Digital to view obligations, liabilities and payments, and to file VAT returns directly.

VAT Periods

Define VAT return periods. Once filed, lock to prevent changes. VAT codes: 0=Zero/Exempt (on return, no VAT), 1=Standard 20%, 4=Non-Vatable (excluded from return entirely). Set VAT Registration Date in Settings to automatically exclude pre-registration transactions.

Pre-Registration VAT Claims

HMRC allows VAT reclaims on goods purchased up to 4 years before registration, and services up to 6 months before registration. Click below to review pre-registration transactions with VAT and optionally include them in a period.

Add VAT Period
The HMRC period key is filled automatically when you connect to HMRC and retrieve VAT obligations. Manual entry is available under Advanced HMRC Debug.

Client Details

Archiving keeps every record and report intact but removes the client from the practice list, reminders, approvals and the year-end pipeline. Use it when a client leaves. Deleting destroys the books permanently.

Client Documents

Store this client's important documents — engagement letters, ID, certificates, key PDFs — inside the client file itself. Documents travel with the .vero file, are covered by auto-save and rolling backups, and never leave this computer.

Limit: 10 MB per file; there is no fixed total limit. Documents are embedded in the client file, so the file grows with them and every save and backup carries them — up to around 50 MB total stays fast, beyond that saves gradually slow. Keep bulky scan archives elsewhere and store the important documents here.
